Ray Santini, 83 years, of Monroe, MI passed away on Monday, November 7, 2011 at 7:55 AM in his home.
Born July 4, 1928 in Giubiasco, Switzerland, Ray was the son of the late Ernesto and Martina Santini. He attended school in Switzerland and was a graduate of St. Francis of Assisi High School in Switzerland. He also served in the Swiss Army.
Ray moved to the Detroit area in 1949 and became a US Citizen in 1955. On April 26, 1952, Ray married his beloved wife, the former Doris J. Roffi in Detroit, MI. The couple lived in Garden City, MI until moving to Monroe in 2005.
Ray was employed as the Head Custodian for Livonia Public Schools until his retirement in 1995. Ray was nominated for and was presented with the Livonia School District's Golden Apple Award for his work at the school. Ray also worked in the food and beverage industry as a waiter for many years.
Ray was a very active and long time member of St. Raphael's Parish in Garden City where he served as an usher, helped with funerals and volunteered for their annual festival. He has been a member of St. Mary's Parish since moving to Monroe.
Ray enjoyed woodworking, bowling, and watching the Detroit Red Wings. A very service oriented person Ray enjoyed being around people, especially his family.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Doris, 2 loving children; Jeffrey J. (Barbara J. Nelson) Santini of Wyoming, MI and Sandy M. (Eric R. Eggly) Santini of Monroe, 2 cherished grandchildren; Cameron and Britney Eggly and a sister Mirta Santini of Giubiasco, Switzerland. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his brother Livio Santini.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 from 2-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe, where Sister Kate O'Brien will lead the Rosary at 6:30 PM. Funeral services will be private and interment will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe.
