Ramona Pauline Coats, 78 years, of Monroe, MI passed away, Tuesday, June 8, 2010 in Mercy Memorial Hospital. Ramona had been in declining health for the past 10 years.
Ramona was born August 9, 1931 in Wyandotte, MI the daughter of the late Paul E. and Lydia (Dutton) Starkey. She grew up in the down river area and attended school in Trenton, MI.
Ramona married Henry Walach in the down river area. She then married Fred A. Coats on May 1, 1970 in Detroit, MI. Sadly, Fred preceded her in death in 1988.
Ramona was employed by General Motors Corporation for 37 years. She worked at the Willow Run Hydromatic Plant until her retirement in 1991. While at General Motors Ramona was very involved in the UAW Local 735 where she served as a secretary for the retiree's.
Ramona was a member of Order of Eastern Star and very involved with the Shriners.
Ramona is survived by 2 loving children; Bryan A. (Debbie L.) Walach of Monroe and Peggy A. Walach - Farnstrom of Houston, TX, 5 cherished grandchildren; Bryan and Michael Walach, Angie Begovac, Jessica Farnstrom and Alisha Barnard, and 3 treasured great grandchildren; Damian, Jonathon and Lucille, and 1 sister Naomi (Terry) Spangler of Taylor, MI. In addition to her parents and husband Fred, Ramona was preceded in death by a daughter Dorothy Barnard and 2 brothers; Richard and Donald Starkey.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe, where funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 10:00 AM. The Rev. Kenneth Spain will officiate. Interment will follow at Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock, MI.
