Pietrina Vitale, 99 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 12, 2024 at the IHM Senior Living Community with her loving family at her side.
Born January 2, 1925 in Cinisi, Sicily, Pietrina was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Nuzza (Bartolotta) Manzella.
On April 21, 1954 Pietrina married her beloved husband, Pietro Vitale in Sicily. The couple moved to Monroe in 1973 to raise their family. Sadly, Pietro preceded her in death on August 10, 2013 after 59 years of marriage.
Pietrina was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Monroe. A wonderful homemaker and seamstress, Pietrina enjoyed praying the Rosary, reading the Bible, cooking, time spent outdoors, and on occasion Smelt fishing. Most of all she enjoyed time spent with family.
Pietrina is survived by two loving sons: Salvatore (Therese) Vitale of LaSalle, and Vincenzo (Christine Johnson) Vitale of Monroe, five cherished grandchildren: Pietrina (Eric) Lieser, Patricia (Dominic) Sprinkles, Mariah (Daniel) Jones, Pietro Vitale, and Salvatore Vitale, six treasured great grandchildren, Rider, Wesley, Della, Enzo, Caden and Angelo, and her sister, Nuzza (Illumonato) Spinosa of Switzerland.
In addition to her husband and parents, Pietrina was preceded in death by her daughter, Maria Vitale and five sisters.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 1 – 8 pm at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161, where the Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm. On Friday, January 19, 2024 she will lie in state at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church at 10:00 am where Mass of the Resurrection celebrating Pietrina's life will begin at 11:00 am. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe.
