Phyllis J. LaFountain, 89 of Monroe, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at FountainView of Monroe, where she had been a resident for 5 years.
She was born December 26, 1925 in Royal Oak, MI to Ralph and Nila (Hoobler) Belyea, and she married Norman R. LaFountain, February 24, 1944, at the First Baptist Church, Monroe. Sadly, he preceded her in death on March 13, 2011.
She was a very active member of the Monroe Alliance Church, and over the years, served as a Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher, youth leader, and was a member of the Women's Missionary Prayer Fellowship group. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a woman who enjoyed crocheting, sewing, knitting, doing both oil and watercolor painting, but mostly for always having a project.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Norma J. (Richard) Sutherland of Flat Rock, David R. (Janet) LaFountain of Blissfield, Richard W. (Marilyn) LaFountain of Grove City, PA, Thomas A. (Estella "Micki") LaFountain of Monroe, and Stephen P. (Susan) LaFountain of Mattawan, MI; her sister, Marilyn Guyor of Monroe; a half brother, Glen (Ruth) Belyea of Harisville, MI; 14 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren.
As well as her husband, her son Michael, a granddaughter, Aimee LaFountain, and brother, Fred Belyea, preceded her in death.
Friends are invited to call at the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Road, on Sunday, June 21, from 4-8 PM. Funeral services to commemorate her life will take place at the funeral home on Monday at 11 AM, with burial following at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Rev. Mark Blake, pastor of Monroe Alliance Church will officiate.
