Paul Van Slambrouck, Ph.D. December 8, 1936 - October 8, 2023
Born December 8, 1936 in Monroe, Michigan to Edward and {Betty}Hattie Elizabeth (Seal) Van Slambrouck. Paul married his wife Sally (Bomia) in August of 1979.
Paul attended St. Mary's Catholic Grade School in Monroe and graduated from Monroe Catholic Central in 1955. He attended the University of Detroit and Wayne State University achieving a Bachelor's Degree in 1960 in Psychology, a Master's Degree in 1963 in Clinical Psychology and the Doctorate in 1972 in Clinical and Educational Psychology. Paul was a former member of the Michigan Psychological Association and was a life member of the American Psychological Association.
Dr. Van began his psychology career in 1963 at the Clinic for Child Study and then moved on to Wayne County General Hospital, Wayne County Clinic for Child Study, taught part time at Wayne State University and then was Director of Psychological Services at the Monroe County Community Mental Health Center. After receiving his doctorate Dr. Van began private practice in Dearborn and the Ypsilanti-Ann Arbor area. He continued to practice as a Fully Licensed Clinical Psychologist until retiring in 2017.
He and his wife enjoyed spending many winters at their home in Florida. Throughout his life, Dr. Van enjoyed playing tennis, golf and exercising. He loved listening to jazz and classical music and reading poetry, especially those poems written by his older brother Edward Van Slambrouck, Jr., and cousin Shirley M. Wright Steinman.
He is survived by his wife Sally of 44 years, and son Paul E (Kendell), grandchildren, Stella and Jameson Van Slambrouck, Bryson, Joshua, Lyla and
Charlie Rea, sister-in-law Diane Van Slambrouck, brother-in-law Norman Neidermeier, sisters-in-law Nancy (Peter) Barron, Elizabeth Brandes, nieces and nephews Kathy Tetrault, Beth (Jim) Squires, Phillip Van Slambrouck, Michael Van Slambrouck, Victor (Shawn) Van Slambrouck, Ed Van Slambrouck III, Pamela (Lary) Edgell, Kristie (Tim) Kronbach, Chip Niedermeier, Kenneth (Armando) Niedermeier, Keith (Michelle) Neidermeier, Judy (Ted) Jernigan, Michael (Linda) Lindsay, Dawn (Tom) Knight, Sally (Mark) Baker, Jim (Renee) Lindsay, Anthony (Tonya) Brandes and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Betty Van Slambrouck, sister Mary Ann Niedermeier, brother Edward Van Slambrouck, Jr., mother-in-law Lillian V. (Geno) Bomia and brother-in-law Robert Brandes.
A memorial hour of visitation will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ypsilanti, MI (411 Florence St. 48197) from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17th. A Memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by the church pastor, Rev. Fr. Daniel Westermann. Private interment at Roselawn Memorial Park will occur at a later date. Bacarella Funeral Home of Monroe, MI is assisting the family with cremation and funeral arrangements.
