Patricia Jean Bails, age 69, of Monroe, MI, passed away, Saturday, January 24, 2009 in LaSalle, MI at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Dawn and Ervin Mettie. Pat had been in declining health since June of 2008. Pat was born April 15, 1939 in Toledo, OH, the daughter of the late Clarence F. and Josephine (Signs) Snyder. Pat lived most of her life in Monroe and was a 1956 graduate of Monroe High School. Pat went on to attend Eastern Michigan University where she received her Bachelor of Education Degree. Pat was employed as a teacher by Monroe Public Schools for 34 ½ years teaching at Custer Elementary School until her retirement in 1997. After retirement Pat, a true "snow bird" spent her winters in Fort Myers, FL where she worked as a booking agent for Sea Trek, a deep-sea adventure company for 3 years. Two of her closest friends were Captain Eric and Captain Kenny, whom kept her in good supply of shrimp and fish. It could be said that Pat was most comfortable with a fishing pole in her hands. Pat loved her time wintering in Fort Myers, fishing, boating, swimming in her pool, antiquing with her daughter, quilting, taking trips with her friends, casino trips, her retirement community in Florida, which was very special to her, water aerobics at the YMCA and taking cruises with her "snow bird" buddies. Pat especially enjoyed her family. Pat is survived by her daughter; Dawn M. (Ervin) Mettie of LaSalle, 3 sons; Richard J. (Leslie) Bails of Plano, TX, Steven D. (Lisa) Bails and Shawn Bails both of Monroe, 6 grandchildren; Jason (Jessie), Shanna (Joshua), Kiley, David, Gregory and Steven, 6 great grandchildren; Seth, Caleb, Liam, Gavin, Brody and Mia. In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by an infant son William Patrick Bails. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe, where funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Evans C. Bentley pastor of St. Paul's United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be at Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania, OH. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
