Oval R. "Bob" Carder, age 90 of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2026 in his home.
Born May 31, 1935 in Erie, MI, Bob was the son of the late Oval E. and Bernice (Kim) Carder.
Bob served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from June 25, 1953 until being honorably discharged on July 6, 1957. On December 20, 1956, he married Hilda P. Hoppenbrouwer in West Palm Beach, FL. Together they raised 8 children.
Bob owned and operated Ashland Gas Station in Luna Pier, MI and later was employed by Union Camp/Jefferson Smurfit Paper where he retired after 34 years.
Bob was an active member of the former First Wesleyan Church in Monroe. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening and deer hunting with his family.
Bob is survived by his wife of 69 years, Hilda Carder; 7 children: Steven Carder of Monroe, Robert (Michelle) Carder of Merrillville, IN, James (Linda) Carder of Mansfield, OH, Thomas (Cynthia) Carder of Elkhart, IN, Robin (Richard) Schmidt of Monroe, Rick (Jacinda) Carder of Van Buren, IN, and Michael (Antoinette) Carder of Monroe; brother-in-law, Harley Aichler of LaSalle, MI; 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a son, Glen Carder; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Carder; granddaughter, Dori Lynn Carder; and 6 siblings: Mildred (Raymond) Nutt, Rosemary (Tony) Hernandez, Kathleen Aichler, Martha (Bob) Knoll, James (Sharon) Carder, and George Carder.
Family and friends may visit from 12 p.m. until time of funeral at 2 p.m. Monday, Apr. 13th at Bacarella Funeral Home. Bob's son, Rev. Dr. James Carder will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park where military honors will be provided by Monroe VFW Post 1138.
Memorial donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans or Heartland Hospice.
