Noleca J. Cunningham, 73 years, of Monroe, MI passed away Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 9:20 AM in Tendercare of Monroe. Noleca was born February 6, 1937 in Monroe, MI the daughter of the late Robert and Iva Ann (Williamson – Thompson) Haygood. After graduation from Monroe High School Noleca moved to Middlesboro, KY, where she met, fell in love with, and on January 15, 1955 in Monroe, married her beloved husband, Lawrence E. Cunningham. Noleca worked as a certified nursing assistant at the Lutheran Home and in the home health care industry, retiring in the mid 1990's. She was a member of Raisinville Baptist Church. Noleca was also a wonderful homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, flower gardening, fishing with her husband on Lake Erie and cooking. Her family so enjoyed eating her chicken and dumplings. Noleca was a caring and loving person who loved spending time with her friends and family. Noleca is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years Lawrence, 3 loving children; Valerie R. Filimon, Vaughn L. (Helen A.) Cunningham and Patrick G. (Becky) Cunningham all of Monroe, 7 cherished grandchildren; John, Jessie, Joe, Haleigh, and Hannah Cunningham and Renay and Korin Stefko, 6 treasured great grandchildren and a brother Tillman A. (Lisa) Thompson of New Hampshire. In addition to her parents, Noleca was preceded in death by a son; Vincent and 2 grandsons; Benjamin and Daniel Cunningham. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe, where funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 2:00 PM. The Rev. Benjamin T. Hawes, pastor of Rockwood Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be given to Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.
