Nistor was a 1944 graduate of Monroe High School where he was president of the student council. On December 31, 1955 Nistor married Sally Ann Quick at Trinity Episcopal Church in Monroe. She preceded him in death on September 26, 2011, after 55 years of marriage.
In the late 1950's Nistor took over the family business and owned and operated Michigan Bar in Monroe. He then went on to become the President and CEO of Ace Paper Products in Newport, Michigan from which he retired in 1991.
Nistor was a long time and active member of Trinity Episcopal Church where he served on the church vestry and taught Sunday School.
