Obituary

Nancy Jean Swinkey, age 65, of Ypsilanti, Michigan, passed away December 7, 2023 in her home.
Born January 31, 1958 in Monroe, Mich., Nancy was the daughter of the late Margaret V. (Burt) and Jerry J. Swinkey. Nancy attended St. Micheal Catholic School and graduated from Monroe High School in 1976.
Nancy married Stephen Martin of Monroe in 1978. She graduated from the University of Michigan Pharmacy School in 1981and interned at University of Michigan Hospital. Upon graduation she worked at Jackson Hospital in Jackson Michigan for 4 years. She spent the rest of her career at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti until she retired in 2020.
Nancy was an avid fan and season ticket holder of University of Michigan Football. She played basketball and softball in her youth. She loved to travel throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean and Europe. She had plans to visit every Michigan State Park and would frequently go on a last minute road trip to cross a few more off the park map she kept in her glovebox.
Nancy was quick to a smile, having fun, and loved the Moody Blues band. She attended over 35 of their concerts including two Moody Blues Cruises. She was loved and an inspiration for everyone who knew her. She was the happiest when her grandsons were with her.
Nancy is survived by two daughters, Stephenie (Gene) LaPouttre of Flat Rock, MI, Katie Martin (George Goettler) of Canton, MI; a son, Adam Martin of Ypsilanti; two grandsons; Gene Daniel Lapouttre and James LaPouttre of Flat Rock; three sisters, Barbara (David) Nunez of Carleton, MI, Geraldine Imo of Denver, CO, and Karen Swinkey (Thomas) Mirowski of Wolverine Lake, MI; four brothers, Jerome (Judy) Swinkey of Newport MI, Larry (Marsha) Swinkey of Riverview MI, Jon Swinkey and Gregory Swinkey both of Monroe.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by three sisters, Christine Swinkey, Beverly Schreiber and Judy Fenley; and brother, Robert Swinkey.
Family and friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11th at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. Monroe, MI. Cremation will follow in accordance with her wishes.
