Nancy L. Freud, age 90 of Monroe, MI, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2024 with her loving daughter by her side.
Nancy Louise Noland was born in Monroe, MI on January 6, 1934 to Harry and Helena Noland. At the age of 10, she went to live with Clifford and Bessie Black who raised her into adulthood.
Nancy graduated from Monroe High School in 1951, lettering in Varsity Cheerleading. She attended University of Michigan for 1 year before her kind and caring heart led her to the nursing program at Highland Park General Hospital. Upon graduating in September of 1955, Nancy took a job as a Registered Nurse at the original Monroe Hospital on Maple Boulevard in Monroe. She later went to work as a nurse and bookkeeper at the family medical practice of Dr. John W. Freud in Monroe where her integrity and compassion for the patients were evident to all who came into the office and the two were wed on June 24, 1965. Nancy enjoyed being married to the love of her life for 34 wonderful years before his passing in 1999.
Nancy could often be found playing tennis at the YMCA, partnering with her husband before joining the women's league and her beloved Wacky Wimbles team. She was a life member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, a founding member of the Mobile Meals program at Mercy Memorial Hospital, and the Doctors Wives Auxiliary.
Nancy is survived by her loving daughter, Lisa (Dennis) Polczynski of Monroe; sons John (Virginia) Freud of Boerne, TX and James (Nancy) Freud of Hoover, AL; grandchildren: Andrew Polczynski, Dayna (Jonathan) Roberts, J. Bryan (Suzanne) Freud, J. Alex Freud, and Yulia Freud; great-grandchildren: James Freud and Olivia Freud; numerous nieces and nephews as well as longtime friends and caregivers to include "adopted daughter" Janis Smith and neighbors Jon and Julie Cregar.
In addition to her husband and parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her siblings, Shirley Noland, Donald Noland, Barbara Tykosky, Phyllis Kalanquin, and Janice Hojnacki.
Nancy will be forever remembered for the importance of family and the love and care she provided to them throughout her life.
Family and friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30th at Bacarella Funeral Home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tues. Oct. 1st followed by burial at Roselawn Memorial Park.
To honor Nancy, the family asks that any acts of monetary kindness be directed to the local Monroe YMCA or a charity of the donor's choice in lieu of flowers.
