Nancy E. Buckner, 74 years, of Monroe, MI, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 in her home.
Born May 27, 1938 in Martins Ferry, OH, Nancy was the daughter of the late Louis and Elizabeth (Kapostas) Chesla. Nancy grew up in the downriver area and was a 1956 graduate of Lincoln Park High School.
On Valentine's Day 1956 Nancy married Clifford Gene Buckner in River Rouge, MI. The couple moved to Monroe in 1971 to raise their family. Sadly, Gene preceded her in death on October 31, 2012.
Nancy worked as a paraprofessional for Jefferson Schools for ten years. She then worked for ten years at Meijer in Monroe as a seafood specialist from which she retired in 1999. Although Nancy worked outside the home she was also a wonderful homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, scrapbooking, knitting and quilting. She won several Blue Ribbons for her quilts at the Monroe County Fair. Along with her husband Gene, Nancy enjoyed hunting for Morel Mushrooms and was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings. Nancy was a member of Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center. More than anything Nancy loved her family.
Nancy is survived by five cherished grandchildren: Angie Buckner, Jamey Buckner, Steffinie Buckner, Rory Buckner and Cory Buckner and three treasured great grandchildren: Alex Feko, Elizabeth Feko, and Ryder Tickner. In addition to her husband of 56 years Gene, and her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by three loving sons: Robert, Randy and Russell Buckner and one brother: Robert Chesla.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe where funeral services celebrating Nancy's life will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Joseph Byrd, pastor of Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
