Nan Theresia Knee died on April 17, 2025. Born in Bluffton, OH she was the daughter of the late Herman G. Schmidt, and Mary A. (Boerger) Schmidt. A graduate of Bluffton University, she also held a masters degree in social work from University of Michigan. Her career spanned four decades as a dedicated Mental Health Therapist, Administrator and Director.
She is proceeded in death by her husband Gary J. Knee, sisters Patricia (Schmidt) Davis and Mary Lou (Schmidt) Steinman, sister in law Pat (Joseph) Schmidt, niece Julie Schmidt, grand niece Sara Wagner and brother-in-law Noel Steinman. She is survived by daughters Tracy (Dave) Lorton, LeAnne (Jeff) Dropps, and stepdaughter Leslie (Tim) Salenbien, grandchildren Mario James Pighin, Marianna Grace DePalma, Alexis, Payton and Elle Dropps, step grand-daughters Olivia and Delaney Salenbien, brothers Don and Jeff Schmidt and sisters Beth and Stephanie Schmidt.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a Monroe County Mental Health Facility of your choosing, Veterans of Foreign Wars or Monroe County Humane Society.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 127 N. Monroe St., Monroe, MI 48162. Private interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe. Bacarella Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
