Murle O. Thornton, 91 years, of Monroe, Michigan went peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday, September 18, 2023 at Brookdale Senior Living in Monroe with her two granddaughters, Nikki and Lori at her bedside.
Born September 9, 1932 in Delta, Ohio, Murle was the daughter of the late Oscar and Anna (Martin) Weaver. She was a 1950 graduate of Delta High School and went on to further her education at Davis Business College.
Murle worked as a payroll administrator for La-Z-Boy for 30 years, from which she retired in 1995.
Murle enjoyed playing cards, reading, and watching game shows on TV. Most of all Murle loved time spent with family.
Murle is survived by her beloved son, Gregory A. (Debbie) Thornton of LaSalle, her loving son in law, Benjamin C. Devos of Monroe, five cherished grandchildren: Nikki L. (Greg) Dupuie, Lori A. Devos, Megan (Lane) Zabawa, Nicholas Thornton, and K.C. Thornton, four treasured great grandchildren: Kaylee, Alec, Ethan, and Blake and an adored great great granddaughter, Yaya.
In addition to her parents, Murle was preceded in death by her daughter Darlene K. Devos on March 7, 2018 and Murle's longtime companion Tiny Newkirk.
Visitation will held on Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 4 – 8 pm at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161. Interment will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 10:00 am.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or to the American Cancer Society.
