Mildred A. "Tillie" Powers, 92 years, of Temperance, MI passed away Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 10 PM in Toledo Hospital. She had been in poor health for the last 3 weeks Tillie was born November 3, 1916 in Monroe, MI the daughter of the late John and Carolina E. (Schmidt) Hammer. On June 24, 1937 at Zion Lutheran Church in Monroe Tillie married her beloved husband Rolland Powers. Sadly, after 56 years of marriage Rolland passed away on February 20, 1994. Tillie was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Temperance. A wonderful homemaker Tillie enjoyed baking cookies, crocheting, knitting, reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Most of all Tillie enjoyed her family. Tillie is survived by 3 loving daughters; Sally A. (Fred) Georgeson, whom she made her home with in Temperance, Lynda J. (Daniel) Johnson and Susan M. (Michael) Maddux both of Monroe, 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Tillie was preceded in death by a daughter; Merlene Powers, a brother; Justus Hammer and a sister Cordelia Hammer Marshall. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe, where funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Frank Paine pastor of St. Luke's Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
