Mildred England, age 93, of Monroe, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2024 surrounded by family.
Mildred was born September 2, 1931 in New Tazewell, TN, she was the daughter of Rev. Robert M. and Lora E. (Toliver) Williams.
She married the love of her life Odra S. England February 16, 1946 in Pineville, KY, they were married nearly 72 years when he preceded her in death on February 13, 2018.
Mildred's faith and her church were very important to her. She was an active member of Union Street Missionary Baptist Church where she cooked in the fellowship hall, taught Sunday school, was secretary for the Vacation Bible School committee and treasurer of the Women's Missionary Union.
She was an incredible southern cook with some of her specialties being biscuits and gravy and chocolate pie. She enjoyed Tiger Baseball, sewing, crocheting, reading and spending time at their home in New Tazewell.
Mildred took great pride in caring for her family and loved to spend time with them. She especially loved spoiling her grandchildren.
Through the years she had worked for Dr. Middleton, Dr. Kabir and Dr. Poopat.
She is survived by two daughters, Theresa (Wesley) Powers of Tecumseh and Debbie Owens of Monroe; two sisters, Jewel (Robert) Keck and Anna Mae (Dennis) Johnston both of Kokomo, IN; four grandchildren, Jeremy (Sheri) Powers, Jennifer Powers, Richard (Audrey) Owens and Ashley (Kevin) Owens-Libstorff; eight great grandchildren, Logan, Gabe, Garrett, Xavier, Jamairah, Eliot, Alex and Kathryn.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, four infant children, Eddie, Jackie, Johnny and Ronnie.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 31, 2024 at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Rev. B.J. McDaniel and Hank Blevins will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions in Mildred's memory may be made to a charity if the donor's choice.
The family would like to thank the staff of both Gardens Senior Living of Carleton and Heartland Hospice for the loving care and support they provided to Mildred and her family during such a difficult time.
