Miklos "Micky" B. Lukacs

On Monday, October 17th, Miklos “Micky” Lukacs passed peacefully surrounded by family. Miklos Béla Lukacs was born on April 5th, 1937, in Mikóháza, Hungary, moved to Budapest at age 14 and became a barrel maker. He was a 1956 Hungarian Freedom fighter against the Hungarian soviets. He soon after escaped Hungary through Austria and eventually made it to the US with nothing but a satchel, a change of clothes and a Hungarian flag. He was sponsored to come to the US by his uncle George Loncsak and settled at his uncle’s home in the Detroit area. He soon found work at St. Mary’s Farm in Monroe, MI. On April 29th, 1961, Micky married Constance ‘Connie’ (Eby) Lukacs at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Monroe, MI where they continued to be active members for the 61 years of their marriage. Together they raised 3 children, have 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren . When he spoke of his family there was nothing but an ear-to-ear smile on his face. While working at St. Mary’s Farm and raising a family, he went to night trade school to become an electrician and worked his entire career at Detroit Edison. After he retired, Micky traveled with his wife, Connie, bowled, swam and water walked at the YMCA, and played Bocce Ball. He’d spend mornings at the Knight’s of Columbus drinking coffee and talking with other members. He was an avid card player, enthusiastic grocery shopper, and loved visiting his grandkids and great grandkids whenever possible. Micky leaves behind a legacy of love to his family members: beloved wife of 61 years Connie (Eby); 3 Children: John (Stephanie) Lukacs of Farmington Hills, Nick (Kris) Lukacs of Brighton, Laurie (Randy) Knight of Grand Haven; 4 grandchildren: Alicia (Derek) Thompson, Corissa (Drew) Moore, Carly Lukacs, and Derek Lukacs. He also leaves behind three great-grandchildren who lovingly named him “Papa Hat”: Maverick, Ari, and Lola. Also surviving him is one sister, Maria of Budapest, Hungary. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. A Remembrance and Celebration of Micky’s life will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church on Thursday, November 3rd from 9-11 am. At 11 am, Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by the church pastor, Rev. Fr. David Burgard, followed by interment at St. Joseph Cemetery.
