Obituary

Michael Douglas Williams of Carleton passed away at the age of 77 on April 20, 2026.

Michael was born on March 7, 1949 in Monroe, MI to Thorston and Wilma (Kettinger) Williams. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1967 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University. He later built a strong and dedicated career as a machine welder and repairman at Ford Motor Company in Woodhaven, where he worked for 34 years before retiring in 2004.

Michael proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He served from February 5, 1969 until being honorably discharged on September 10, 1970. He later served in the Army National Guard from July 29, 1980 to July 28, 1984. He remained deeply connected to his fellow veterans throughout his life and was actively involved with V.F.W. Post 4093 where he served as Chaplain, offering support and comfort to those around him.

He was a certified Master Gardener who found great joy in gardening and canning, always taking pride in the fruits of his labor. He also loved woodworking and created many special pieces that will be cherished by his family for years to come. Michael had a deep love for animals, raising chickens and ducks, as well as caring for his barn cats throughout his life.

A man of faith and service, Michael was a devoted member of St. Charles Church, where he served as a lay minister. He often volunteered alongside his granddaughter at St. Anne’s Food Closet. In addition, he was a member of Flat Rock Elks Lodge #1731. He took great pride in being part of these communities, where faith, service, and friendship were an important part of his life.

Family meant everything to Michael, and he embraced all who became part of it. He had a gentle soul and would help anyone in need.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Linda M. (LaBo) Williams whom he married on December 4, 1970 at St. Charles Catholic Church; his loving daughter, Jennifer Sarabia, and her husband Carlos Sarabia, who was like a son to him; his beloved granddaughter, Brooke Scott; Carlos’s sons, Diego Sarabia and Cruz (Emily) Sarabia, who he loved as his own grandchildren; and Daisy, who brought him great joy as a great-granddaughter; and his brothers, Thomas Williams and Robert (Pam) Williams.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Stephen Williams; and sister-in-law, Kathy Williams.

Family and friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Apr. 26th at Bacarella Funeral Home. He will lie in state at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Catholic Church in Newport where Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Rev. Fr. Henry Rebello. Burial will follow at St. Charles Cemetery with military honors provided by Carleton VFW Post 4093.

Michael will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
