Michael Joseph Vallieres, age 79, of Monroe, passed away Friday, November 15, 2024, at ProMedica Flower Hospital, Sylvania surrounded by his family.
Michael was born February 11, 1945, in London, Ontario, Canada. He was the son of Joseph E. and Marjorie T. (Callahan) Vallieres. He married Nancy L. Karolyi February 7, 1969.
He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from September 11, 1965, to August 11, 1967, during the Vietnam War. He earned the rank of Sergeant and received an honorable discharge for his dedicated service earning various awards and medals for his service.
After his discharge, Michael began working as a journeyman butcher and meat cutter at A&P, eventually moving into management. He later joined CVS, where he served as a store manager and district specialist for inventory management, overseeing 19 stores until his retirement. A dedicated worker, he took great pride in providing for his family. Family meant the world to Michael; he adored his grandchildren helping them whenever needed.
A member of Divine Grace Parish at St. Joseph Church in Maybee, Michael was actively involved in his faith community. He served two terms as president of the Parish Council and co-chaired the Fall Festival for many years.
Michael was an avid collector of diecast cars and trucks, with a particular passion for muscle cars, having owned several throughout the years. Along with Nancy, he restored a Lincoln Continental Mark IV and was an active member of the Lincoln Continental Club. A lifelong fan of Michigan sports, Michael loved attending Detroit Tigers, Lions, and Red Wings games with his son, Joey. He rarely missed a game on TV cheering on the Detroit Tigers.
We can not forget Michael's cherished fur companion who brought boundless joy & love Michael's German Shepard Chucky.
He also supported a variety of organizations, including the US Naval Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, Disabled American Veterans, Paralyzed Veterans of America, American Legion, Vietnam Vets, Boysville of MI, and Veteran Service Dogs, reflecting his deep commitment to honoring fellow veterans and their families.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Vallieres of Monroe, three children, Diane Pitts of Haslett, Michigan, Joseph (Tanya) Vallieres of Novi and Danielle (Brett) Cole of Monroe; seven grandchildren, Benjamin, Jocelyn, Isabella, Morgynn, Matthew, Cameron and Taylor.
He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Anne Marie
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:00p.m. He will lie in state Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Divine Grace Parish, St. Joseph Church, Maybee Campus with Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Michael Woroniewicz, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Maybee, with military honors provided by VFW Post 1138, Monroe.
In lieu of flowers, Michael asked that donations be made to VFW Post 1138, Monroe, DAV, IHM Sisters Retirement Fund or Veteran Service Dogs.
