Melvin D. Allen, age 94 of Monroe, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 under the care of Heartland Hospice.
Melvin was born in Ubly, MI on November 7, 1930 to Melvin and Irene (Krug) Allen. He served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army from December 7, 1951 until being honorably discharged on November 17, 1953. He was awarded the Occupation of Germany Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
Melvin lived most of his life in Monroe and was employed by General Motors at their Hydramatic Transmission Plant in Toledo for over 40 years, retiring as a Supervisor. His hobbies included bowling, hunting, fishing, and golfing.
Over the years, Mel spent a lot of his time with his nieces and nephews, creating many fond memories. He could often be found lending a helping hand to anyone in need.
Mel is survived by 15 nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Rose Allen of Ubly, MI; his close friend and confidant, Walden "Whitie" Yates; and his friend Sandy Steinman who cared for Mel in his home during his last days.
Mel was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Navarre, Alden "Packy", Bill, and Mervyn; and two sisters, Norma Colpus and Patricia Allen.
Cremation arrangements were provided by Bacarella Funeral Home. A graveside service will be announced at a later date when Mel is laid to rest in Bad Axe, MI.
