Mary T. Thoma, age 91 of Monroe, passed away Saturday. November 5, 2022 at Wellspring Lutheran Home.
Born December 1, 1930 in Monroe, Mary was the daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa (Korika) Trpelka. On October 19, 1963, she married Norman C. Thoma at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monroe. Together they raised two sons.
Mary was employed for 20 years at Micka's Market and then worked 30 years for Monroe Public Schools at Raisinville Elementary as a lunch aide and teacher's aide.
Mary was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Frenchtown Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and Floral City A's Club. She was also a former 4-H Leader and Cub Scout Den Mother. Mary was proud of her Czechoslovakian heritage. She enjoyed baking ethnic pastries, listening to her cultural music, and attending native Czech dances. Other interests included collecting bells and playing Bunco.
Mary is survived by her husband of 59 years, Norman Thoma; two sons, Joseph (LeeAnn) Thoma of Newport and Thomas Thoma of Monroe; two grandchildren, Joseph (Kristen) Thoma, II and Katelyn Thoma; three great-grandchildren, Mason Poupard, Logan Thoma, and Owen Thoma.
In addition to her parents, Mary was also preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Jacob Trpelka.
Family and friends may visit from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15th at Bacarella Funeral Home where the Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Mary will lie in state at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. by the church pastor, Rev. Fr. David Burgard followed by burial at Roselawn Memorial Park.
