Mary Lola Telfer, 84, of Monroe, passed away April 29, 2007, in the Aspen Grove Assisted Living Center, Lambertville, where she had lived since January 2006. She had been in poor health since moving to Aspen Grove and seriously ill for the last month.
Mary Lola was born April 1, 1923 in Harrogate, TN to Albert W. and Ella Virginia (Brooks) Ramsey. They came to Monroe in 1923 from Harrogate. A 1940 graduate of Monroe High School she married William J. Telfer of April 19, 1946 in Ypsilanti, MI. Sadly, he preceded her in death March 22, 1977.
Much of her adult life was spent working for the Michigan Employment Commission and the Social Security Administration, retiring in 1976. Mary Lola enjoyed bowling, gardening, traveling, knitting and sewing, crossword puzzles, and helping others, she was a former member of the Ladies Senior Gold League, and the Monroe Women's Bowling Association. She possessed a fierce dislike for any injustices, especially against those who, as she often put it, "already had two strikes against them."
She leaves to mourn a loving son, Terry A. (Ann M.) Telfer of Temperance, cherished grandson, Daniel (Natasha) Telfer of Farmington Hills, step grandchildren, Joshua, Jeremiah, and Jason Hall of Bedford, and step great grandchildren, Cheyenne and Amber.
Her parents, a brother, Charles Ramsey and sisters, Pauline Pitcher and Florence O. Keck, also preceded Mary Lola in death.
Friends may call 2-8 PM Tuesday at the Bacarella Funeral Home where services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday. The Dr. Ronald K. Brown of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church, Columbia, TN, will officiate and interment will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Memorial gifts in her name may be given to Heartland Hospice.
