Mary L. "Mary Lou" Hatfield, age 86 of Monroe, passed away Monday, Jan. 10th at Brookdale Senior Living. She had been in declining health for a year.
Born June 15, 1935 in Monroe, Mary Lou was the daughter of the late Frank and Pearl (Burchette) Griffin. She attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Monroe High School in 1954. On February 25, 1956, Mary Lou married Rolland G. Hatfield in Monroe. Sadly, he preceded her in death on February 20, 2007.
Mary Lou was a dedicated homemaker, wife and mother. She was an active member of First Baptist Church where she worshipped and volunteered her time in many capacities. Her hobbies included quilting, making baby bibs, and listening to Christian music. She possessed a great sense of humor and enjoyed making others smile and laugh.
Mary Lou is survived by two children, Patricia (Chester) Panza and Rolland "Rollie" Hatfield, both of Monroe; two siblings, Ralph (Lois) Griffin and Avis (Ken) Stanifer, both of Rockledge, FL; step-grandchildren, Jason Panza and Rhiannon (Paul) VanWasshenova; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Lou was also preceded in death by four brothers, Roy, Londy, Carl "Toots", and Joe Griffin; and step-grandson, Dylan Panza
Family and friends may visit from 10 a.m. until service at 12 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14th at First Baptist Church. The church pastor, Rev. Cindy Semran will officiate. Private interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests supporting First Baptist Church or Elara Caring Hospice.
