Mary Jo Johnson, age 78 of Toledo, OH, formerly of Monroe, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023 at University of Toledo Medical Center.
Born March 20, 1945 in Monroe, Mary Jo was the daughter of the late Stephen and Marion (Giarmo) Costello. She graduated from St. Mary Academy High School in 1963 and completed her education becoming a Registered Nurse. On March 17, 1970 she married Arnold E. Johnson in Fairbanks, AK. She worked in many hospitals throughout her career as an RN while residing in seven different states.
Mary Jo was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maumee, OH and enjoyed sewing and cooking.
Mary Jo is survived by her husband Arnold; two sons, Jeffrey Johnson of Toledo, OH and Timothy Johnson of Fremont, OH; grandson, Erich Johnson of Toledo, OH; and two sisters, Madeline (Jim) Younglove of Monroe and Kathlene Costello of St. Louis, MO
Mary Jo will lie in state Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. by Rev. Fr. Michael Anagbogu. Cremation will follow with interment at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. Bacarella Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral and cremation arrangements.
