Mary Etta Goins, age 89 of LaSalle, MI, passed away Monday, October 24, 2022 at Wellspring Lutheran Home.
Born October 5, 1933 in Tazewell, TN, Mary Etta was the daughter of the late Ed and Gracie (Gulley) Brooks. She married Franklin D. Goins on September 10, 1953 in Tazewell. They moved to Monroe shortly after being wed and together they raised two children. He preceded her in death on November 1, 2020.
Mary Etta embraced being a homemaker. She loved caring for her family, crocheting, quilting and canning. She formerly attended Riverside Baptist Church in Tazewell and Union Street Missionary Baptist Church in Monroe.
Mary Etta is survived by her children, Wilma Sortor and Timothy (Kari) Goins, both of LaSalle; brother, Wintford Brooks of Monroe; five grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah, Amanda, Wyatt, and Sierra; six great-grandchildren, Ravyn, Robert, Rebecca, Lillyen, Jace, and Morgan; two great-great-grandchildren, Asher and Arya.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Etta was also preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Elmer Brooks and a sister, Blanche Earl.
Family and friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27th at Bacarella Funeral Home where services will be held at 7 p.m. Rev. Matthew Foley, Pastor of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow on Saturday at Cosby Cemetery in Harrogate, TN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
