Mary E. Gessner, age 88 of Monroe, MI, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at 1:00 AM in the Applewood Nursing Center in Woodhaven, MI. where she had been for 6 weeks. Mary had been in poor health for 5 months. Mary was born November 13, 1917 in Wylam, AL. the daughter of the late Alexander and Emma Marie (Dunai) Bazick. On April 19, 1947 Mary married Robert G. Gessner Sr. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monroe. Sadly, Robert passed away January 21, 1975. A homemaker, Mary worked at Consolidated Paper Company during WWII. Mary was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Monroe. Mary enjoyed embroidering, art, and drawing. Mary is survived by 7 loving children; Robert G. Gessner Jr. of Monroe, MI., Mark Gessner of Toledo, OH, Joseph M. (Lynnell) Gessner of Monroe, MI., Richard D. Gessner of Monroe, MI., Jean M. (Joseph) LaRoy of Erie, MI. Beth Ann Gessner of Stanton, MI. and Mary K. Gessner of Morenci, MI. A daughter in law Collette M. Gessner of Newport, MI. 24 cherished grandchildren and 33 cherished great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents Mary was preceded in death by a son James Gessner on May 18, 2005, a grandson Christopher Michael Gessner and a host of brothers and sisters. Visitation for Mary will be held Thursday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home where funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 29, 2006. Fr. Marc A. Gawronski pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contribution may be made to God Works Soup Kitchen, The Philadelphia House or St. Joseph Food Closet.
