Obituary

Mary R. Evans, 77 years of Monroe, MI. passed away Thursday, December 28, 2006 at 12:37 PM in Medilodge of Monroe where she had been for 2 ½ years. Mary had been in poor health since 1978. Mary was born December 31, 1928 in Harlan, KY. the daughter of the late Clarence D. and Maude (Duncan) White. Mary married Lester S. Evans on September 11, 1945 in Dressen, KY. They moved to Monroe in 1947 from Luellen, KY. Sadly Lester preceded her in death on June 26, 2002. Mary was a homemaker. Mary was a member of the First Wesleyan Church in Monroe since 1973. Mary was very active in her church, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School for over 30 years, founded the Churches yearly breakfast, was in the quilting guild and also taught quilting. Mary was a member of the Monroe Quilt Guild, Frenchtown Senior Citizens and Maybee Camp. Mary enjoyed gardening. Mary is survived by 6 loving children; Jack D. (Nancy) Evans of Rose City, MI, Helen R. McMillian of Monroe, MI, Sylvia J. (Donald) Laney of Monroe, MI. Connie D. (Vernon) Bussell of Monroe, MI, Sheila V. (Michael) Turner of Monroe, MI. and Darlene (Gregory) Quick of Monroe, MI. Mary is also survived by 13 cherished grandchildren, 22 cherished great grandchildren and one cherished great great granddaughter. In addition to her husband and parents Mary was preceded in death by a great grandson Darrin Whiteaker, her son in law Rodger McMillian, 1 brother and 3 sisters. Visitation for Mary will be held Friday from 3-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home where funeral services celebrating her life will be held Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Jeffrey Luttrell Pastor of First Wesleyan Church and the Rev. Eugene White Pastor of Bible Fellowship Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.
