Mary Ann Carr, 89, of Monroe passed away Friday, April 12, 2024.
Mary Ann was born to Andrew and Louella (LaVigne) Giznsky in Monroe on September 25, 1934. She married the late Harshey Van Carr June 9, 1956 in Monroe where they made their home together until his passing in 1999.
Three daughters survive Mary Ann, "her girls", Vanessa VanDevelde, Tammy Johnson, and Holly (Jeff) Marshall, all of Monroe. They cherished their mother and devoted the last year of Mary Ann's life helping her transition from her home of 61 years to living with daughter Holly and son-in-law Jeff to Hampton Manor Dundee Assisted Living. Many treasured memories were made in just the last several months with her family visiting often, including weekly Friday night Bunco parties with her girls and bonus daughter and friend, Donise Yard.
Mary Ann spent most of her married life as a homemaker. Over the years she held several part time jobs including Federals Department Store, Hall of Divine Child, and St. Mary's Academy. She most enjoyed the time spent with her family. An avid Bingo fan, she spent many evenings with her sister Donna going to the local Bingo Halls. Known to be lucky, she also enjoyed trips to the casino. One of her proudest accomplishments was teaching her grandchildren and most of her great-grandchildren how to play poker. Whenever she had her grands at the house, they were sure to come home with pockets full of change from their "winnings" at poker with Mimi. Mary Ann was also very gifted in the art of retail shopping. With her excellent decorating skills, including a knack for flower arranging, and her insistence on always looking her best, the stores and/or QVC always had something to offer. Being a generous soul, nothing gave her more pleasure than gifting a loved one with one of her finds. To know Mary Ann was to love Mary Ann. Her sweet nature and kindness won over everyone who was lucky enough to have known her.
Besides her husband and parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by brothers Bill Giznsky and Andy Giznsky, sister Betty Bauer, sons-in-law Dan VanDevelde and Ken Johnson, grandson-in-law Paul Nuznov, grandsons Bryan VanDevelde and Justin Marshall, and great-granddaughter Lennon Vandevelde.
In addition to her daughters and son-in-law, she is survived by and will be forever loved and missed by her grandchildren Mark V. Dahl (Tina), Dan VanDevelde, Carly Dahl (Dustyn Bork), Kelsey (Marshall) Nuznov, Amanda (VanDevelde) Hafner, and Matthew Marshall (Alyssa). Great grandchildren Danielle, Alexis, Corey, Layne, McKenzie, Destiny, Hunter, Aria, Lily, Daisy, and Nora.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hampton Manor Assisted Living in Dundee. Their outstanding care and friendship were a comfort both to Mary Ann and her family.
Visitation for Mary Ann will be Tuesday, Apr. 16th at Bacarella Funeral Home from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a funeral service starting at 6 p.m. Mary Ann's nephew, Rev. Fr. Robert Bauer will officiate. Burial will be privately attended by family at Roselawn Memorial Park.
