Mary B. Byrd, 87 years, of Monroe, MI passed away on Monday, February 21, 2011 in her home surrounded by her loving family and under the tender care of Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.
Born October 9, 1923 in Oneida, TN, Mary was the daughter of the late James and Roxie (McGee) Riseden.
On June 7, 1942 in Huntsville, TN Mary married her beloved husband Jacob E. Byrd. Mary and Jacob moved to Monroe in 1950 to raise their family. Sadly Jacob passed away on October 31, 1984.
A wonderful and talented homemaker, Mary also worked outside the home as a Nurses Aide at Beach Nursing Home for 26 years. Mary loved flower and vegetable gardening, crocheting and taking care of anyone in need. She was also an animal lover who would take in any stray that needed tending to. Above all Mary worked hard for and enjoyed taking care of her loving family.
Mary is survived by her loving son James O. Byrd of Monroe, 10 cherished grandchildren, 22 cherished great grandchildren and 11 treasured great great grandchildren, and her brother Bill (Lynn) Riseden of Livingston, TX. In addition to her beloved husband and parents Mary was preceded in death by a son Jeffery Byrd, 2 daughters; Ada G. Jester and Carol Schultz, 1 sister and 5 brothers.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe, where funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Friday, February 25, 2011 at 1:00 PM. The Rev. Dale Hayford of Crosswalk Community Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Historic Woodland Cemetery in Monroe.
