Mary Ann Barbier, age 87 of Monroe, MI, passed away Friday, July 31, 2026 at Monroe Springs Rehab and Nursing Home.
Born November 10, 1938 in Detroit, MI, Mary was the daughter of the late Pancratius and Helen (Makowski) Berkowski. On November 17, 1954, she married Albert F.L. Barbier in Monroe.
Mary was a member of Lower Light Church in Petersburg, MI. for many years. She enjoyed playing Bingo, crocheting and donating afghans, listening to country music, doing puzzles and diamond art, and loved being a great-great-grandma.
Mary is survived by six children: Carol Newby of Monroe, MI, Judith (John) Welch of Mansfield, AR, Lewis (Sandy) Barbier of Nashville, TN, Larry Barbier of Monroe, MI, Cheryl (Dan) Wolfe of Monroe, MI, and Johnnie (Laurie) Barbier of Monroe, MI; 15 grandchildren 23 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband Albert on August 16, 2001; four children, Veronica, Troy, Dennis, and Donald Barbier; grandson, Mark Barbier; and son-in-law, Terry Newby.
Family and friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5th at Bacarella Funeral Home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Rev. David Voss will officiate followed by burial at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Memorial donations are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
