Mary Angeline Au, age 84, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2026 peacefully in her home. She was blessed to have been active and independent until her last day.
Mary was born May 14, 1942 in Loraine, Ohio. She was the daughter of Joseph and Lena (Grego) Terrasi. She married Gene P. Au August 20, 1960, sadly he preceded her in death March 11, 2020 just a few months shy of their 60th wedding anniversary.
She was a 1959 graduate of Monroe High School and had been a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church since 1961.
Mary worked as a teacher’s aide for Monroe Public Schools. She loved taking care of children, after her retirement she provided childcare in her home for several years.
Her hobbies included taking (and giving) pictures, crocheting, swimming, playing cards and participating in group activities. She found joy in sharing meals with friends and family, baking cookies, and giving food to the people she loved. Mary will be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering faith, generous spirit, and deep love for family and friends.
She lived a life filled with laughter, and meaningful connections.
She is survived by her three daughters, Sherry (Dylan) Sutherland of Linden, CA, Shelly Trisler of San Marcos, Ca and Sandy (Kent) Mathis of Lake Zurich, IL; two sisters, Phyllis (James) Keck of Monroe and Rose (Patrick) McGovern of IL; five grandchildren, Morgan, Emily, Shannon, Sydney and Luke; four great grandchildren, McKinley, James, Rustin and Ryles.
She leaves behind countless cherished memories and will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe. She will lie instate Monday, June 15 at 10 a.m. at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church with funeral services at 11 a.m. Rev. D. Lee Cullen, pastor of the church, will officiate. Private burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Holy Ghost Lutheran Church.
