Marvin Douglas Strauss, age 89, of Monroe, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2026 at Monroe Springs Nursing and Rehab.
Doug was born June 21, 1937 in Monroe, he was the son of Marvin James and Wilma Anderson (Pyle) Strauss. He married Bonnie Jean Grodi September 21, 1963 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
He was a 1955 of Monroe Catholic Central High School and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from January 12, 1956 until his honorable discharge December 4, 1959.
He worked for Michigan Gas Utilities for 38 years, retiring on January 31, 1997.
Doug enjoyed golfing, spending time outdoors, working in his yard and visiting with his friends. He loved the time spent with his family.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Bonnie; two daughters, Amy (Matthew) Harshberger and Kellie (Christopher) Salvato; five grandchildren, Sam (Alex) Harshberger, Ben Harshberger, Erin (Kobi Eichner) Harshberger, John Ryan Salvato and Abigail Salvato; three great grandchildren, Riley Jasinski, Adeline and Jack Harshberger and a sister, Sally J. Strauss.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2026 at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, where the Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. He will lie instate at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. Rev. David Burgard will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
