Marvin F. LaPrad, age 91 of Monroe, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Wellspring Lutheran Home.
Born January 5, 1932 in Monroe, Marv was one of thirteen children born from the union of Edward and Elizabeth (Hammer) LaPrad. He graduated from Monroe Catholic Central High School in 1950 and married Sharon M. Clark on December 1, 1962 at St. Mary Catholic Church. Together they raised two children.
Marv was employed for 14 years by Great Lakes Steel and then by Michigan Gas Utilities for 27 years. After retiring in 1991 as Crew Leader, Marv became a "Honey-Do" for his wife at LaPrad Home Care.
Marv was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 884, Monroe Council 1266 Knights of Columbus, and Monroe VFW Post 1138. He enjoyed most all sports, especially if it included throwing, kicking, shooting, or hitting a ball. His many hobbies included hunting, fishing, bowling, playing cards, visiting casinos, and playing golf.
Marv is survived by his wife Sharon; two children, Renee (Alex "Sandy") Hunter of Monroe and Marvin (Monique) LaPrad, II; five siblings, Janice Beaudry of Grand Rapids, MI, Arthur LaPrad of Flat Rock, MI, Barbara Jennings of Monroe, MI, David (Rose) LaPrad of Hixon, TN, and Paul (Joyce) LaPrad of Monroe, MI; five grandchildren: A.J. (Sarah) Hunter, Megan Hunter, Marvin (Alisha) LaPrad, III, Joshua (Shelbie) LaPrad, and Brittany LaPrad; ten great-grandchildren: Claire, Marvin IV, Colton, Stephen, Taylor, Liam, Adeline, Maddison, Haley, and Emilia.
Marv was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings: Charles, Joann "Boots" Barlow, Alice Bergmooser, Diane Crossman, Cindy By, Hildreth McLaughlin, and Gary.
Adhering to Marv's request, private chapel services were held at St. Joseph Cemetery. Rev. Fr. Michael Anagbogu officiated followed by entombment. Bacarella Funeral Home assisted the family with funeral and cemetery arrangements. For anyone wanting to make a donation in memory of Marv, the family suggests supporting St. Jude Children's Hospital.
