Obituary

Marvin W. (Barney) Kaiser, age 82, of Monroe, passed away Thursday morning,
November 13, 2014 at Mercy Memorial Hospital. He was born in Erie October 3, 1932 the son of Thomas W. and Mary A.( Lietzke) Kaiser. He married Marilyn P. Meier on October 2, 1954 at Christ Lutheran Church in Monroe.Officiating was Rev. Raymond Heine. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1950. He joined the US Army and served as a sergeant from 1952-1954 during the Korean Conflict. He was employed at Detroit Edison Co from 1951-1960. He purchased the Fred W. Meier Sons and was its owner/operator until selling the business in 1988. Since then he has been a licensed realtor. Barney was a civic minded man. He was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and was a co-chair of the first Miss Monroe Pageant. He was past president of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce; past president of Monroe Public School Board of Education; past president of Kiwanis Club of Monroe; past president of the Downtown Monroe Business Association and the Downtown Development Authority; served as director of First National Bank of Monroe and Security Bank Corp. He played semi-professional baseball with the Monroe Orioles in the Ohio Federation League as well as being active in local sports; was the first league director of the Custer Baseball program; served on the Monroe Recreation Commission from 1969-1972; currently serves as President and CEO of Roselawn Memorial Park; selected to receive the Who's Who in Michigan and received the Monroe Minute Man Award. He is a member of Christ Lutheran Church and served as its president; was a board member of the Lutheran Church in America Michigan Synod and represented the church at the American National Convention. He is survived by his wife Marilyn; sons Kent A. (Denise) of Jerome and Kevin W. (Jana) of Monroe; daughter Kathy L. (Alfred) Torres of Riverview; grandchildren Ryan (Sarah) Derek (Kellie), Brent, Kyle, Cory, Erin (Joel) Allie, Sarah, Michael; great-grandchildren Nolan, Macie and Camden. He was preceded by his parents, brother Richard and sister Charlotte Wright. Friends may call Sunday from 2 - 8 PM at the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph, Monroe. Memorial service held 11 AM, Monday, November 17, 2014 at Christ Lutheran Church in Monroe. Private interment at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials to Christ Lutheran Church or donor's charity choice.
