Marion N. Yoas, age 108, of Newport, passed away Monday, June 3, 2024 in her home under the care of hospice.
Marion was born September 9, 1915 in Carleton, she was the daughter of Harry R. and Martha E. (Webster) Calkins. She married Raymond G. Yoas November 23, 1935 in the parsonage at Zion Lutheran Church, Monroe; he preceded her in death March 15, 1959.
She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church since 1937, she served with the Ladies Aid helping with school and funeral lunches. Marion was a board member and quality gardening representative to the state of Michigan and National Convention for Farm Bureau, she also worked in the kitchen at the fair. She volunteered at the Monroe County Museum and was a member of the Ladies Guild at the Lutheran Home.
Marion helped on the Yoas family farm and through the years had worked at North Monroe Greenhouse and Meiring Nursery. She enjoyed gardening, mowing her lawn, quilting and craft club until her passing.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Diane Yoas of S. Rockwood; son-in-law, Klaus (Vickie) Koenig of Newport; four grandchildren, Gary Yoas of S. Rockwood, Todd (Melissa) Yoas of Carleton, Susanna (Wayne) Pitock of S. Rockwood and Martha (Tim) Westphal of Lakeland, FL; six great grandchildren, Jeremy (Caia) Miller, Jr., Kurtis Miller, Alexandra Koenig, Keith Yoas, Dillon Yoas and Blake Yoas and two great great grandchildren, Emmeline and Emmett.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by a son, Ivan E. Yoas; daughter, Wanda A. Koenig; two sisters, Reta Hedges and Meldonna Grant.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Road, Monroe, MI 48161. She will lie instate at 10 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church with funeral services at 11 a.m., Rev. Ross Ulrich and Rev. Greg Sitzman will officiate. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
