Obituary

Mariann Meyer, age 82, of Carleton, passed away Friday, December 27, 2024 in her home.
Mariann was born March 24, 1942 in Carleton to Harold and Retha (Weisbecker) Wickenheiser.
She was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick Catholic Church. She attended St. Patrick School and was a 1960 graduate of St. Mary Academy, Monroe. She married Herbert L. Meyer April 16, 1963 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Carleton. Rev. Howard Hungerford officiated. She and Herb made their home in Carleton where they raised their four children.
Mariann was a fifth generation lifelong member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Carleton, where she was an active member, including serving three terms on the Parish Council, Church Cemetery Committee and several different chair positions for the Church Festival. She and her husband also served for 25 years as church collection money counters.
She was vice president of the Monroe Branch AMI (Alliance for the Mentally Ill). She served on the SMCC School Board and had been an officer of the SMCC Music Boosters. In December 2005, she became a member of HOME INC.'s Board and retired from the Board in 2019 due to poor health.
When Mariann got married, she worked in the underwriting department of an insurance company in Detroit. When she and Herb started a family, Mariann did childcare in her home so she could stay home and raise her children. She was in sales for eight years, during which she won many trips, several that her husband went along. She returned to private childcare because of her love of children.
Mariann loved to travel and was lucky her husband, Herb, worked for American Airlines. This allowed them to take their children and vacation all over the world.
Surviving are her four children, sons, Todd (Karen) Meyer and Roger Meyer; daughters, Dawn (Richard) Hadley and Shawna Meyer all of Monroe; two brothers, Terry (Dawn) Wickenheiser and Tim Wickenheiser; four grandchildren, Corin Hadley, Kayla (Brian) Knapp, Kyle (Cloe) Hadley and Trevor (Mary) Meyer and ten great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Herb on May 8, 2022; her parents; three sisters, Donna Langton, Audrey Sims and Janet Esper and a brother, Robert Wickenheiser.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 30, 2024 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, where the Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. lead by her nephew, Deacon Tracy Esper. She will lie instate at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 31 at Divine Grace Parish, Carleton Campus (St. Patrick Church) with Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m. Rev. Michael Woroniewicz, pastor of the church, will officiate and Deacon Tracy Esper serving as Homilist. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, Carleton.
