Margot L. Rose, age 89, of Monroe passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at Saint Therese IHM Senior Living.
Born September 24, 1936 in Germany, Margot was the daughter of Gerhard and Frieda (Stadtmueller) Bauer. She met Arnold Rose while he was stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army, and the two fell in love. They married in Bad Mergentheim, Germany on April 16, 1955. Once Arnold was honorably discharged, they came to Monroe, Michigan to start their family. As an immigrant, who later became a proud U.S. citizen, Margot worked her way through a dictionary about 8 inches thick to become proficient in the English language. But it was with a twist; she spoke with the slight southern accent of her in-laws, who were transplants from Kentucky. Some people actually thought Margot was originally from Kentucky! Margot and Arnold had four children and shared nearly 55 years of marriage before he sadly preceded her in death in 2010.
While raising her children, Margot was a dedicated homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a great cook and also tried her hand at gardening and canning. Since she did not play sports, most people would not know that she was extremely competitive. When video games first came on the scene, she would practice while the kids were at school so she could challenge them and win! She was also a ruthless Scrabble player, so her children, and later, grandchildren, saw it as a badge of honor to beat her in the game.
After the children were grown, Margot and Arnold enjoyed traveling and visiting relatives across the U.S.. Sometimes on those trips, she was a bit mischievous and would give Arnold the wrong directions just so they could see some backroads, instead of just highways. She adored her cocker spaniel, Misty, who was her constant companion until Misty passed away. In her later years, she was an avid puzzler, liked to do word searches and watch westerns and the Hallmark channel. She had a taste for sweets and particularly enjoyed imported chocolates from Germany…a small taste of the home she had left to make a new one in Monroe.
Margot is survived by her four children, Harold (Krystal) Rose, Felicia (Michael) Metzger, Sherry (Michael) Steenwyk and Pamela Sharpe, her sister, Herta, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Family and friends may visit from 12 p.m. to the time of the funeral at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2026 at Bacarella Funeral Home. Rev. Jay Anderson of CrossPointe Church will officiate. Cremation will follow in accordance with Margot’s wishes. Memorial donations are suggested to the Humane Society of Monroe County. Margot’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Saint Therese IHM Senior Living, particularly the second floor East wing staff as well as the nurses and aides of Heartland Hospice for their care and dedication, the company they shared, and the comfort they provided to Margot during her time in their care.
