Obituary

Marcus Gonzalez, age 61 of Monroe, MI passed away Thursday, June 7, 2007 at 7:38 AM in The Toledo Hospital in Toledo, OH. He had been in the hospital and in poor health since April 18th. Marcus was born December 16, 1945 in Guadalajara, Mexico the son of the late Jesus and Josefina (Alvarado) Gonzalez. Marcus was a 1963 graduate of St. Vincent DePaul High School in Detroit, MI where he made all city in basketball. On January 6, 1966 in Detroit, MI he married Linda D. Goodin. Marcus served his country as a US Marine during the Vietnam War. Marcus was employed for 30 years at General Motors working at the Tech Center in Warren, MI as a Warranty Supervisor retiring in 1998. In 2002 Marcus began working as a Shipping Supervisor for Four Star Greenhouse in Carleton, MI. Marcus was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Marcus enjoyed coaching children, while coaching at St. Pat's he was the 1984 CYO coach of the year in basketball. Marcus also enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing Texas Holdem, and was an avid U of M fan. Marcus is survived by his beloved wife Linda, and 3 loving children; Matthew M. Gonzalez of Monroe, Raquel (Carl) Messina of Port Huron and Autumn (Jason) Hood of Monroe. 6 brothers; Ramon (Gloria) of Newport, Ralph (Dolores) of Woodhaven, Guadalupe (Cynthia) of Lincoln Park, Fr. Juan of Brooklyn, NY, Luis Jose of Detroit, and David of KY. 1 sister Anita (David) Willis of East Pointe. Also surviving are 5 cherished grandchildren; Raven and Carmen Hood, Carly Messina and Elise and Alex Gonzalez. Sadly he was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers; Felipe, Antonio, and Jesus and a sister Maria Gonzalez. Visitation for Marcus will be held Saturday and Sunday from 3-9 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home where funeral services celebrating his life will be held Monday, June 11, 2007 at 10:00 AM. Marcus's brother Fr. Juan Gonzalez pastor of St. Francis of Assisi and St. Blaze Catholic Church in Brooklyn, NY will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, where the VFW Post 1138 will conduct military honors for Mr. Gonzalez.
