Mallie Gilbert, 98 years, of Monroe, MI passed away Sunday, December 27, 2009 at 6:10 PM in Tendercare of Monroe. Born December 9, 1911 in Tazewell, TN, Mallie was the daughter of the late Robert and Flora (Lingar) Ellison. On April 24, 1927 in Tazewell, Mallie married her beloved husband Grover Roscoe Gilbert. Sadly on October 19, 1974 he preceded her in death. In 1945 Mallie and Grover moved to Monroe to raise their family. Mallie was a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed knitting, crocheting, flower gardening and cooking. Mallie is survived by her 2 sons; Hal Russell (Betty) Gilbert of New Tazewell, TN and Roger O. Gilbert of Hudson, MI, and numerous grand, great grand and great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents Mallie was preceded in death by 2 sons; Gillis and Ralph Gilbert. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3-6 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe where funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 1:00 PM. The Rev. Roy Southerland pastor of Monroe Missionary Baptist church will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Salvation Army.
