Maggie Mae "Peggy" Gable, age 89 of Monroe, MI. passed away Friday, September 8, 2006 at 4:30 PM in Medilodge of Monroe where she had been since March of 2005. She had been in poor health for 5 years. Maggie was born April 25, 1917 in Fork Ridge, TN. the daughter of the late John and Minerva (Herrell) Woodward. Maggie moved to Monroe in the late 1940's from Tazewell, TN. Maggie married Otis Buttery. She then married Melvin C. Gable in Monroe in 1960. Sadly Melvin preceded her in death on August 9, 1977. Maggie attended Wallin's Creek School in Kentucky and took adult education classes in Monroe. Maggie was employed as a Cosmetologist for Cunningham's Drug Store for 16 years and as a Clerk for Thornton's Drug Store for 13 years both were in Monroe. She retired in 1980. At one time Maggie attended both the Stewart Road Christian Ministry Center and Redeemer Baptist Church. Maggie enjoyed traveling, playing cards and attending card parties, bowling, quilting, gardening and reading. Maggie is survived 4 loving children; Robert E. (Mary Lou) Buttery of Pentwater, MI., Betty J. (James) Rykard of Fort Wayne, IN, Alice E. Farmer and Barbara G. Osgood both of Monroe. A stepson Mark Gable of Troy, MO. and a stepdaughter Debbie Quinn of Monroe. 2 brothers; Thomas Woodward of Cocoa, FL. and Wade B. Woodward of Tazewell, TN. 2 sisters; Hazel Carter of Tazewell, TN. and Reva Smith of Cocoa, FL. 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents Maggie was preceded in death by a brother Edward Woodward and 2 sisters Virginia Coldiron and Bessie Rice. Visitation for Maggie will be held Sunday from 2-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home where funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Monday, September 11, 2006 at 11:00 AM. the Rev. Margaret Passenger, pastor of East Raisinville United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or the Monroe Cancer Connection.
