Mabel Rosswurm, of Hilton Head Island, formerly of Monroe, Michigan, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2015 at the age of 89. Mabel was born June 22, 1925 in Newton Falls, Ohio, the daughter of Luther F. and Estella E. (Parks) Hall. Both preceded her in death. Graduating from Monroe High School in 1943, Mabel went on to work at the Willow Run Bomber Plant as a B-24 riveter for the war effort, a real-life "Rosie the Riveter".
Mabel married Merrell J. Rosswurm on June 8, 1946 in Napoleon, Ohio. Merrell died in January, 1979. Mabel retired as an employee for The Sisters of Service IHM of Monroe, and continued to work there part-time until the age of 82. In 2008 she relocated to South Carolina to live near her daughter, Jackie.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mabel was preceded in death by her sister, Bernice (J. Dale) Russell, in 2004. She will be forever missed by her children, her relatives, and many who knew her, including her long-time caregiver and dear friend, Thomasena Mack of Hardeeville, South Carolina. She is survived by her daughter Jackie Rosswurm of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; two sons, Kim (Veronica) of North Olmsted, Ohio, Ron (Angie) of Cut Off, Louisiana; and two granddaughters, Ali and Kasey Rosswurm.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015 from 11:00 AM until services celebrating her life at 1:00 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161. Private interment will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Ida, Michigan, following the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Lowcountry, Habitat for Humanity, or the charity of your choice.
