Lucila Zulema Mendoza, age 81 of Monroe, passed away Friday, April 29, 2022 in her home. For over a year, she fiercely fought her physical adversities with a positive attitude and a smile on her face.
Lucila was born in Houston, TX on June 6, 1940. She was the daughter of the late Domingo and Maria (Ortiz) Jasso. On March 1, 1959, she married Carlos CH. Mendoza, Sr. in Houston and moved to Monroe in 1964. Together they raised seven children. Sadly, he passed away on January 10, 2021.
Lucila was a member of Primera Iglesia Hispana De Monroe A C Y M Church where she was active in mission work and taught Sunday School. She was proud to have earned a high school diploma (GED) through Mason Consolidated Schools in 1987. For 13 years, she was employed at Marian Place as a cook and enjoyed flower gardening, baking, cooking, and volunteering at church.
Lucila is survived by 7 children: Carlos (Denise) Mendoza, Jr. of Monroe, Cynthia (Gary) Ford of Grand Rapids, MI, Cecilia Mendoza of LaSalle, MI, Celia (Roy) Chipps of Monroe, Cipriano Mendoza of Monroe, Carla (Nick) Bussell of Monroe, and Cristoval (Amanda) Mendoza of Monroe; 23 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lucila was also preceded in death by a brother, Leonedezs Jasso and a sister, Angelina Ortiz.
Family and friends may visit from 3 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7 p.m. Monday, May 2nd at Bacarella Funeral Home. Pastor Nestor Baron will officiate. Cremation with private interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the church to support their charitable work programs.
