Louis W. Stolle, 78 years, of Monroe, MI passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 5:30 PM in his home after a brief illness. Louis was born May 10, 1931 in Kalamazoo, MI the son of the late Louis and Katharine (Potter) Stolle. A 1949 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School, Louis went on to receive his bachelor's degree from Kalamazoo College. He then attended the University of Michigan where he received his master's degree. On August 6, 1960 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Monroe Louis married his beloved wife the former Sally A. Hixson. Louis proudly served our country for 2 years as a corporal in the U.S. Army, stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington. It was while in the Army that Louis began his teaching career. Louis was employed by Monroe Public Schools and taught Economics and American History at Monroe High School for 33 years until his retirement in 1989. Louis enjoyed walking, reading history books, was a passionate dog lover, and enjoyed being with his family. Louis is survived by his beloved wife Sally, 3 loving children; Matthew T. Stolle of Rochester MN, Brian D. (Jennifer) Stolle of Springboro, OH, and Alison M. (Jeff Tabbert) Stolle of Scotia, NY, 6 cherished grandchildren; Adam, Andrew and Nathan Tabbert and Justin, Timothy, and Elizabeth Stolle. In addition to his parents Louis was preceded in death by his sister Barbara Riopelle. Louis' family will receive friends on Friday, May 15, 2009 at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at which time Fr. Jack Quinlan will celebrate a Memorial Mass of the Resurrection celebrating Louis' life. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe. The Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
