Lois Reed, 83 years, of Monroe, MI passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, OH surrounded by her loving family.
Born June 23, 1927 in Arthur, TN, Lois was the daughter of the late Henley and Sarah Jane (Maples) Bussell. Lois and her husband John H. Gibson moved to Monroe in 1953 to raise their family.
On January 29, 1975 at Grape Missionary Baptist Church, Lois married her beloved husband Robert A. Reed. Sadly, he preceded her in death on July 15, 1995.
A wonderful homemaker and loving mother, Lois enjoyed crossword puzzles, rug hooking, playing the piano and harmonica, country music and cooking. Lois also enjoyed celebrating her birthday, asking every year if her children were going to have a party for her. Lois, above all, loved taking care of and being with her family.
Lois is survived by 6 loving children; Ronnie R. (Janie) Gibson, Phillip (Judy) Gibson, Sarah F. Essary, Evelyn D. Ray, Donna F. Brewer, all of Monroe and Kenneth (Violet) Gibson of LaSalle. 12 cherished grandchildren, 20 cherished great grandchildren, 6 treasured great great grandchildren, 1 brother; Eulus (Judy) Bussell of Newport and 2 sisters; Lorrianne (Estil) McBee of FL and Bertha Cole of Temperance, MI. In addition to her husband and parents, Lois was preceded in death by a grandson, Phillip Scott Gibson, a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie Gibson, a great great grandson Noah, 2 sons in law; Charles Essary and Kelly Brewer and 9 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe, where funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Monday, February 28, 2011 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Gary Pickrell will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
