Lila L. Pope, age 81 of Monroe, passed away Thursday afternoon, December 9, 2021 in her home with her daughter at her side.
Born August 14, 1940 in Harrogate, TN, Lila was the daughter of the late William "Moss" and Nola (Cosby) Brittain. On June 29, 1959, Lila married Gerald D. "Pete" Pope. Together they raised three children.
Lila liked to attend craft shows, spending time with her family, and dining at Olive Garden, her favorite restaurant. She always looked forward to her annual visit to Shipshewana, IN with her daughter, granddaughter Jennifer, and great-granddaughter Kynzie.
Lila is survived by her husband, Gerald "Pete"; three children: Robert (Sheilah) Pope of Castalia, OH, Tony (Marlene) Pope of Luna Pier, and Margie Pope of LaSalle; a sister, Lena Keck of Monroe; five grandchildren: Joshua Pope, Jacob Pope, Jennifer (Dan) VanDaele, Rene' Pope, and Richard Pope; seven great-grandchildren: Jasmine, Josiah, Jacquelyn, Sophie, Kynzie, Braedyn, and Jackson.
In addition to her parents, Lila is also preceded in death by a brother, Lucian Brittain.
Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bacarella Funeral Home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Lila's nephew, Rev. Ike Pope of Evergreen Acres Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
For anyone wanting to make a memorial donation in memory of Lila, the family suggests supporting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Humane Society of Monroe County or any other establishment that benefits animals, or a charity of the donor's choice.
The family would like to thank the staff of ProMedica Hospice for the wonderful care given to Lila. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
