Lewis Tailford, III, age 83 of Monroe, MI, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2024 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital.
Born December 13, 1940 in Toledo, Ohio, Lewis was the son of the late Lewis and Virginia (Lingle) Tailford. He attended Woodward High School in Toledo and then served his country in the U.S. Army from April 29, 1959 until being honorably discharged on April 6, 1961.
On August 6, 1966, Lewis married Mary Kay Gawronski at Regina Coeli Catholic Church in Toledo. Together they raised three children.
For 30 years, Lewis owned and operated Thermal Lite Windows in Monroe. In the late 1970's, he also owned and operated the former Eat's Restaurant in Monroe for 2 years.
Lewis' favorite hobby was cooking. He also enjoyed reading and fishing. He was known by his family and friends as "Sweet Lew" for his very loving, kind, and thoughtful demeanor.
Lewis is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Kay; daughter, Kendra (Bryan) Hill of Monroe; two sons, Senate (Corrine) Tailford of Chelsea, MI and Shelby (Jamie) Tailford of Lambertville, MI, brother, Doug (Jackie) Tailford of Delray, FL; two sisters, Lee Zimmerman of Toledo, OH and Barb (Rob) Aspy of Largo, FL; four grandchildren: Anthony Fiorino, Sydney Fiorino, Collin Tailford, and Charlese Tailford.
Lewis will lie in state at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13th at St. Mary Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by the church pastor, Rev. Fr. David Burgard. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors provided by Monroe VFW Post 1138.
