Lettie Florence (McDaniel) Umfress Hoskins, age 86, passed away suddenly on January 13, 2025, in Hale, MI. She was born to Estel "Clyde" and Bobbie (Love) McDaniel on November 8, 1938, New Tazzle, TN. Florence married Jack E. Umfress and together they had 4 children whom they raised in Monroe, MI. They moved to their summer cabin in Glennie, MI after retirement. After Jack's passing in 2013, Lettie stayed in Glennie where she was very involved at Lott Baptist Church. It was there she met and married Arthur Hoskins. They shared 8 years together.
Florence worked as a Coder in the medical field. She also spent time in Africa and China as a missionary. She taught English as a second language. Florence loved to travel. She also visited Italy and served on the New York Southern Baptist Church 911 Disaster Relief.
Florence is survived by her husband Art, children; Randy (Rena) Umfress, Kathy McCammon, Michael Umfress, Doug (Linda) Umfress, 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, stepchildren; Marge (Larry) Lane, Erick Spanding, James Spanding, Chris Spanding, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, first husband Jack, siblings; Ruby Pope, Sylvia Williams, Betty Jo McDaniel, Jean Keck, Wayne McDaniel, Barbara Spare, Faye Kurtz, Dean McDaniel, and Sue Hodge.
Services for Florence will begin on Friday, January 17, 2025, with a time of visitation from 5:00 – 7:00pm at Buresh Funeral Home, Hale, Michigan. Services will continue at the Bacarella Funeral Home in Monroe, MI on Monday, January 20, 2025, with a time of visitation starting at 12:00pm and ending at the time of service at 1:30pm. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
