Lester C. “Les” Heller, age 89, of Monroe, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2026 at ProMedica Toledo, Hospital.

Les was born on August 9, 1936 to Marshall & Marie (Maurer) Heller in Monroe. A lifetime member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Monroe. Les started school at St. Michaels and completed his education at Catholic Central. Where he excelled and lettered at football, basketball and baseball. He was captain of the football & basketball teams during his senior year. And went on to attend Adrian College on a football scholarship.

As a child, he enjoyed vacationing up north with his parents. He loved ice skating and football. And learned a lot about life, a good work ethic and family from his parents and his grandfather who lived with them. Les’s senior year his brother John, set him up on a double date with a girl from St. Mary’s Academy. This date with Aggie was the start of a 62 year love affair, they Married February 11, 1956 and raised 6 children. As an adult, Les played as hard as he worked. He loved adult volleyball, softball & golf. He helped coach his children’s sports teams and umpired for many years. He had a great golf game and would play the game well into his 80’s.

With Aggie they built a lake house in Irish Hills. And enjoyed the special times and memories that were made there. They later retired for the winters in Palm Harbor, Florida. Where he and Aggie enjoyed playing golf together.

In 1946 Les’s father Marshall, started a construction business. And this is where Les’s future career began. His construction career started in 1955 with his father. He later took over the business and with the help from Aggie, they had a successful career. His son and grandson have since taken over the Heller Construction company.

Les is survived by five children; Mark & Grace (Sulfaro) Heller, Kirk & Dana (Wagner) Heller, Kevin & Phoebe (Stromp) Heller, Kelli & Al (Heller) Allard & Eric & Annette (Puzzo) Heller; grandchildren: Jessica (Ben) Brenton, Matthew Heller, Justin (Chrissy) Heller, Danielle (Jim) Duffy, Sarah (Nick) Gilstorf, Rachael (Tyler) Bondy, Cassie (Michael) Kessler, Grant (Jaclyn) Heller, Corinne (Dan) Bolster, Kyle Heller, Dakota (Ashley) Allard, Mary Elizabeth Allard, Madison Sherrod, Hailey Sherrod, Levi Zvirman, Aaron Zvirman; great grandchildren: Jillian, Brityn & Elliott Duffy; Jaxon, Gabby & Cecelia Brenton; Mia, Ava & Eve Heller; Colton Allard; James and Melanie Garlough; Rowan & Luca Gilstorf; Vivian Kessler; Clara, Regan & Jack Bolster; Beldren, Maeve & Genevieve Bondy & a 20th baby Heller on the way; sister, Barb & Karl Mercer and his many loving nieces & nephews.

Les was preceded in death by his loving wife Aggie; he was also preceded in death by his parents Marshall & Marie Heller, daughter, Margo Heller Sherrod, granddaughter, Savannah Allard and brother John Heller.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday July 10, 2026 at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe where a Rosary will be held at 5 p.m. He will lie instate Saturday, July 11, 2026 at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Church with Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m. Rev. Kishore Battu, pastor of the church, will officiate. Private burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial donations go to support any of the following organizations: St. Michael Catholic Church, SMCC High School, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, or the Ovarian Cancer Foundation.
