Leroy Simpson, 85 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 18, 2025, in his home.
Born June 21, 1939, in Bardo, Kentucky, Leroy was the son of the late Rev. Clarence L. and Alene M. (Dise) Simpson. The family moved to Monroe from Harlan, Kentucky in 1940.
Leroy served his country honorably and proudly in the United States Army.
On October 17, 1959, Leroy married his beloved wife, the former Shirley Ann Finley at First Baptist Church in Monroe. Sadly, Shirley preceded him in death on February 18, 2018, after 58 years of marriage.
Leroy began working in the body shop at Wittkop Pontiac in Monroe. He then ventured out on his own and started Simpson Collision in Monroe, from which he retired in 2001.
Leroy was a member of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed camping and tinkering with automobiles. Most of all, Leroy enjoyed time spent with family.
Leroy is survived by three loving children: Roy W. (Malinda Rucki) Simpson of Monroe, Dianna L. (Randy) Drummonds of Monroe, and Rick J. (Tami) Simpson of LaSalle, nine cherished grandchildren, five treasured great grandchildren, a brother, James, L. (Beverly) Simpson of Holt, FL and a sister, Bonnie Stevens of Lucasville, OH.
In addition to his beloved wife and parents, Leroy was preceded in death by two brothers: Raymond and Robert and 4 sisters: Ole Simpson, Margaret Shelton, Hazel Adkins, and Rachel Friar.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161, where funeral services celebrating Leroy's life will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 11:00 am. Rev. Roy Southerland will officiate. Interment will follow at LaSalle Township Cemetery, where the VFW post 1138 will conduct military honors.
