Leonard Swanson, 64 years, of Monroe, MI passed away, Monday, May 17, 2010 in his home. Leonard was born February 17, 1946 in Tazewell, TN the son of the late Farlin and Bessie (Arnold) Swanson. Leonard was a child when his family moved to the Monroe area. He was a 1964 graduate of Mason High School in Erie, MI. In the mid 1970's Leonard accepted our Lord and Savior into his life and was baptized in the Baptist Faith. Leonard worked for McClouth Steel, the State of Michigan as a maintenance man for the Monroe Tourist Center and for Ford Motor Company in Milan. Leonard also served his country proudly in the US Navy. Leonard is survived by 5 sisters; Bonnie Z. Schmidt of LaSalle, Clara (Rudy) Warner – Lommerse of LaSalle, Bernetia (Wayne) Baldwin of Ottawa Lake, MI, Wanita Brown and Betty Babcock both of Monroe and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Leonard was preceded in death by 3 brothers; James and Alfred Dunn and Doyle Jones and 2 sisters; Ruth Chittum and Anita Swanson. There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2010 in LaSalle Township Cemetery at 2:00 PM. The Rev. Johnny Fultz of Suder Avenue Baptist Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Leonard's family in care of his niece Kim B. Hacker, 424 Fern Ct., Monroe, MI 48162. The Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd in Monroe is assisting Leonard's family with funeral arrangements.
